Principal's Message
Irrigon Elementary School is the newest Irrigon School. It was constructed to ease crowding at A.C. Houghton Elementary School. It opened its doors for the first time in September of 2003 and currently houses fifth and sixth grade students. Our current enrollment is 125 students. Three teachers at each grade level make classroom sizes exceptional allowing optimal learning to take place. We also have an ELL teacher and a Special Ed./Title I teacher to help students to succeed.
We encourage our young adolescent learners to take part in a variety of learning opportunities. Band is offered to all students daily. Library time for students to read books and explore their imaginations is provided. Many students participate in our community based sports programs in football, soccer, track, and basketball. We also offer an after-school program to support our students in reading and mathematics. This program also gives our students an opportunity learn new skills such as chess, caligraphy, beading, cooking and other hands on skills. Our sixth grade students attend Outdoor School for one week in May where they get to explore the out of doors. For some, this is the first time they have ever been out in the wilderness.
We continue to build on the programs we have each year and add new ones as resources become available. We are currently working to build a Parent Club and invite all parents to be involved in this project. As we grow and develop as a school, we hope to offer endless opportunities for student learning. Community support for education is always a plus. We welcome community volunteers to come help our students at school through the Grandparent program or just willing to come spend their time helping our students to improve in their reading and math skills. Volunteer forms are available at the school office if any one is interested in become a volunteer at our school.
I am always pleased to meet with students, parents, and community members to answer questions, provide support, or share ideas. I believe it takes a team to provide our youth with the best education possible. Please feel free to visit our school or just call to find out about what we are doing these days.
